The NY Times has been giving a lot of coverage to Fukushima these days. \u00a0I like to read the Times every day when I can – the old fashioned way, even though it\u02bbs on paper that came from trees. \u00a0 I can see from the NY Times <\/a>website that they are conscientious in their use of trees, and in their recycling and other programs, so I can feel pretty good about it.<\/p>\n Some of the most recent articles on Fukushima in the Times are about the stress and problems the people of Fukushima have experienced, and continue to experience, since the earthquake, tsunami, meltdowns at three nuclear reactors. \u00a0 What a lot to go through. I\u02bbd be super stressed. \u00a0I wonder why the nuclear industry doesn\u02bbt all band together and help them out. \u00a0It would be great PR for them wouldn\u02bbt it? \u00a0Here is the latest article I found on the difficulties:<\/p>\n Japan\u02bbs Nuclear Refugees: \u00a0Still Stuck in Limbo<\/a><\/p>\n I see that one of Japan\u02bbs most popular former Prime Ministers,\u00a0\u00a0Junichiro Koizumi, has done an about-face on nuclear power and is encouraging Japan to embrace renewable energy sources, according to this NY Times article.<\/a>\u00a0 He is quoted as saying. \u201cThe Japanese are masters at turning a pinch into a new chance.\u201d<\/p>\n There have been persistent rumors of pressure from the US government to keep Japan heavily invested in nuclear power. \u00a0That perspective is represented in this Japan Times article<\/a>, which quotes John Hamre of the influential Center for Strategic and International Studies, as saying\u00a0\u00a0\u201cAmericans cannot afford from a security standpoint to have Japan abandon nuclear power.
